How to grow turnips?
Soil care: easy to grow, likes rich soil but is content with poor soil. Appreciates humidity and heat. Since it is a root vegetable, and if you have the possibility, choose a loose soil with little stones, you will obtain uniform roots.
Exposure: sun or half-shade.
Sowing : 1 cm deep in the ground. Thin out by keeping only one plant every 10 cm. Repeat sowing every 20 days.
Emergence: in 4 to 7 days.
Watering: regular in summer, less in autumn. Turnips like humidity and heat
Harvest: 2 months after sowing
Conservation: 3 to 4 days in a cool place. Can be kept in a cellar in a silo after air drying for one day.
Origin : native of Europe, it is consumed daily until the 18th century when it gives way to the potato which replaces it little by little.
