PH is the measure of acidity and its opposite, alkalinity in a solution. The neutral pH is 7.0 pH. Acidity measures below seven pH (7.0 pH) with alkalinity measuring above (7.0 pH).
It is important to maintain a hydroponic nutrient solution at a pH level where the elements in the nutrient solution are consistently available to the plant. If the solution is too acidic or too alkaline, it can cause a blockage, a situation that restricts certain essential elements to growth these will not be absorbed by the root structure.
Deficiencies in the required elements appear during plant growth and can lead to a poor harvest. In addition, the pH of the water we drink is crucial for our health, the pH of a pool is important not only for the skin and eyes, but also for the effectiveness of disinfectants and pool equipment. Again, the pH of the water in which a fish lives and breeds is critical to its existence as some species need a particular pH to survive.
The elements we add to a solution increase or decrease the pH measurement of the solutions. Only an accurate pH measurementwill allow complete control of the result.

Controlling the pH
When the pH is slightly acidic, most nutrients are available to a plant.
Slightly acidic range
Hydroponic solutions: between 5.5 pH and 6.3 pH
Soil culture: between 6.2 pH and 7.2 pH
Individual crops have their own preference for pH values.
Whatever feed solution you use, keep your pH in a fairly tight band. A consistent balance gives consistent growth.

Accurate pH readings in ppm (500 Scale) solutions below 250ppm [0.5 EC] can be difficult to obtain and require that the pH probe be extremely well maintained and in excellent condition. For this reason, Bluelab recommends that, for general applications, the ppm of the solution being measured be above 250ppm (500 Scale). If pH measurements in solutions below 250ppm are required, Bluelab recommends following the guild lines for measuring pH in low ionic strength solutions.
