Blumat - The autonomous watering system for plants

How to Blumat really work?

To begin with, you fill the system with water and close it after carefully purging the air from the suction pipe. As the potting soil dries, the clay core progressively supplies water, creating a vacuum inside. This vacuum enables water to be drawn from a nearby container.

Like Tropf-Blumatthe system uses the tensiometer principle. Here, however, the vacuum is used to actuate a valve and the water is drawn in under pressure.

Setting the Blumat :

In principle, no adjustment is required. It is possible, however, to adjust the amount sucked in, and therefore the humidity of the pot. If the clay core is placed higher than the water level, a greater vacuum will be needed to draw out the water. The soil will dry out more. Conversely, if the water level is higher than the sprue, water will be pushed into the pot, which is likely to result in excessive irrigation.
