Soil care: Tomatoes prefer light, loose, cool soil. A soil rich in potting soil gives the most beautiful fruits, smoke your soil in autumn.

Sowing: 1 cm deep, in a terrine. 8 weeks later, transplant at 45 cm between plants and 75 cm between rows then stake.

Emergence: in 8 to 10 days in soil at 18°C.

Watering: regular watering avoids flower coulure, then after fruit set, fruit bursting.

Harvest: from sowing to planting, it takes 8 to 9 weeks.

Conservation: to avoid that the tomatoes split, store them upside down.

Origin: native to tropical countries and the foothills of the Andes (South America), the tomato has only been produced for 150 years for the consumption of its fruits.

Advice from La Semence Bioto avoid the transmission of cryptogamic diseases (fungus), you can remove the leaves from the bottom of the plants, before the maturity of the first bunch and then every 15 days. In associated cultures, in order to avoid the transmission of possible viruses, do not plant tomatoes next to legumes (beans and peas), red cabbage and fennel.

In the kitchen

From appetizers to desserts, tomatoes bring color and sweetness to your dishes. At the end of the season, use your green tomatoes to make jam.

Low in calories, rich in antioxidants, tomatoes are a source of minerals, vitamin C and pro-vitamin A. Do not hesitate to cook your tomatoes with oil, which allows a better assimilation of pro-vitamin A and lycopene.
